“What They Do to Beagles in the Name of Science”

You might have a beagle or seen one running around in the park, but not this one.

Every year in the UK, 2000 beagles are being used in animal testing [1], they are either fed or injected with poison to see how they react to toxicity [2].

Ironically, because beagles are so gentle and trusting to humans, they are “easy” to experiment on.

If it sounds terrifying, it is, so how is it even allowed?

In the UK, The Animal Welfare Act prohibits cruelty — including poisoning. However, the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act allows animal testing.

And the worst part? It is a criminal offense to disclose information about these experiments [3]. Even by the government.

So we, the general public, know very little about what these animals go through or why they go through it in the first place.
