“Can you imagine saying this to a mum?”
If you’ve had a baby, either now or ever, you would know that having mastitis can be very painful,. But did you know that you can be killed for having mastitis? No you but, a mamma cow can. I swear I’m not making this up, so let me show you this from gov.uk.
In the UK, for each animal, including cats and dogs, the government has a document that details how you should look after them. Here is the one for cows.
Look at page 35, paragraph 142, under title “Mastitis”. It covers how to manage mastitis, nothing unusual, but then you get to this sentence,
“culling of chronically infected cows” [1].
One of the recommendations for dairy cows with chronic mastitis is to be culled - Defra Code of Recommendations for the Welfare of Livestock, Cattle
Let me translate that for you.
If you keep having mastitis, they can kill you.
I mean, can you imagine even saying that to a mum that has just given birth? Or to anyone really.
